US President Barack Obama nominated an Indian-American lawyer Bharara to become the state Attorney for Southern District of New York. 40-year-old Bharara was advice to New York Democrat Senator Charles Schumer. He also played a vital role in the congressional inquiry of the Bush government’s dismissal of eight American Attorneys. Obama told of Bharara with five others named on last Friday

According to a White House announcement Obama said “This group of men and women have distinguished themselves as fair, tenacious and respected attorneys throughout their careers.” He added “They will serve their country with distinction as US Attorneys and it is my honor to nominate them for these esteemed positions.”

-Emigration: Emigrated to the U.S. in 1970 with his parents

-US Citizenship: Became U.S. citizen 1980

-Early Life: Growing in Monmouth County, New Jersey

-Graduation: Harvard University in 1990 and Columbia Law School in 1993

Achievement: South Asian Lawyer of the Year 2007 by the North American South Asian Bar Association

Career: worked at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, from 1993 to 1996.  After that join Washington-based Swidler Berlin Shereff Friedman LLP (Dechert LLP)

The High Court of Allahabad stayed the arrest of Mulayam Singh Yadav (born 22, November 1939), Chief of Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday. The arrest was in tie with an FIR filed against him pertaining to so-called transgression with one of the Election Commission (EC) officials in Etawah on 11, May 2009. Mulayam Singh was former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister (CM).

In a petition, Mulayam had challenged the FIR filing against him for unsettling the national poll process at particular two booths in the Parsana region. The area is located at Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency where he was contesting. His home district is Etawah. The occurrence came after some villagers of Mainpuri complained that the EC observer did not allow them to vote.

Former CM was furious violently and took up the matter with the observer. Earlier, the EC observer had detected at least three voters form the polling booth with forged ration cards. They said to him, the villagers were coming here with fake ration cards. However, Mulayam said the ration cards were genuine. He argued that the cards were properly signed by the District Supply Officer (DSO) of Etawah.

On Wednesday, the President of Somali Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has signed a bill which will permit the implementation of Islamic law (Sharia) in Somalia. The Deputy Parliament speaker, Osman Elmi Boqore said that the politicians would support the proposal. Boqore said,

All the people in Somalia are Muslims, so there is no reason why the parliament should not endorse the Sharia law bill.

Last month the parliament allowed the implementation of this Islamic law. And at last the bill pass by President Sharif Sheikh a day after received a peace proposal by spiritual clerics. This new UN-backed Somalia’s government was formed in the adjacent Republic of Djibouti following the midway government merged with a coalition of UIC (Union of Islamic Courts), led by Sheikh Ahmed.

Sharia law was a key demand in the war-torn country. Almost 100 percent people of the country are Muslim, so every citizen of the country welcomes this new law.

Pak Supreme Court (SC) is to hear country’s ex Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s appeal against the conviction for the ‘hijacking’ a commercial jet plane by attempting to stop it to land at Karachi. The jet was carrying the former Pakistani Army chief Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

The court admitted that appeal for hearing yesterday and issued a notice to the federal administration asking the authority to give its views on this case. Some sources said the larger SC bench that was hearing the appeal against an order barring Sharif from contesting elections; the same bench would hear the appeal in his hijack case.

In the court Sharif’s advocate Khawaja Haris said the appeal in this hijacking case must not be filed on right time since Sharif was deported twice as the apex court had given its verdict in this case. He added Nawaz was both the prime minister and defense minister of the country at that time. So, he had the power to pass instructions to divert Pervez Musharraf’s airliner because of an emergency situation.

12, October 1999, Sharif had dismissed Musharraf from chief of army fearing a martial coup. He appointed Ziauddin Butt as new army chief. Butt was the head of Pak spy agency ISI. That time, Musharraf was in Colombo. He boarded a business flight home. Afterward, Sharif ordered at Karachi airport authority to be barricaded on the runway to prevent Musharraf’s aircraft from landing. But the armed forces disregarded his orders, and refused to agree Musharraf’s sacking. As a result, the military took over the airport and cleared all barricades.

Eventually, the aircraft landed with evidently just few minutes of fuel for flying. Instantaneously after his arrival Musharraf staged a successful bloodless coup, toppled the elected government and took the power.
